Uttarkashi - Barsu (View All Properties)

Barsu is a small village located 42 Km uphill of Uttarkashi Town towards Gangotri  and takes roughly 6 hours (245 Kms) of driving to reach there from Haridwar. It is a high altitude village with agro-pastoral economy. There are many interesting things such as village temples, water fall, lacks, apple orchards, alpine grasslands and forests around the periphery of the villages and one can get a breathtaking view of the central Himalayan region. It is  a base camp from where one can start for trekking and camping to nearby peaks and mountains.

Duration of stay: A minimum of (3) three day stay is recommended. 

Things to do:
  • Dokriani Bamak: It is one of the most important glaciers of the Bhagirathi basin and is an important glacier of Garhwal Himalayas that feeds the Bhagirathi river system. Cradled among the lofty Himalayas and clothed in white snow, it offers an amazing experience for trekkers and is a good site for camping. It is formed by two cirques (Cirque is a steep bowl-shaped hollow occurring at the upper end of a mountain valley, especially one forming the head of a glacier or stream) i.e. Draupadi-ka-danda and Jaonli peak. The glacier is 5 Kms long and also gives rise to a stream known as dingad which with several other snow fed stream across its path and finally merges with the river Bhagirathi near a picturesque village of the river known as Bukki.
  • Dayara Bugyal:Dayara in the native tongue means ‘high altitude meadow’. Dayara bugyal is a heavenly meadow cradled in the pristine Himalayan nature. It is a good place for skiing and the ski slopes are spread over an area of approximately 28 Kms. Situated at an elevation ranging from 10,000-12000 feet, it provides a magnificent view of the Himalayas. From Barsu, one has to trek approximately 8 kms to reach the place.
  • Dodital Lake:Located at an altitude of 3024 mtrs, Dodital lake lies between the yamunotri and Gangotri mountain ranges. Dodital derives its name from Dodi which is the local name for trout and are found in large numbers in the lake. One of the more famous species is the Himalayan golden trout. Another name for the lake is Dhundital which means Ganesh-Ka-Tal  in hindu mythology. There is a temple which is dedicated to Ganesha. And according to legends, Lord Ganesha choose the place as his abode.
