South Sikkim - Kewzing (View All Properties)

With a predominantly Bhutia population which is one of the numerous different communities of the state, Kewzing prides itself on leading the traditional Buddhist way of life in the village. Located at a distance of less than 8 kilometres from Ravangla, the nearest town, it provides a strategic tourist stay point to enjoy the village life without missing out on the nearby tourist attractions as well. The place offers many different activities that can be pursued by tourists during their short stay like village hikes (gives one a complete different perspective destroying the traditional village stereotype), visit to numerous monasteries around the region, nature walks through the dense vegetations, and trekking to some of the highest hill points.

Duration of stay: A minimum of three day stay is recommended.

Things to do:

·         Samdruptse: As per the local bhutia language of the area, Samdruptse means ‘the wish fulfilling hill’ and is also believed to be a dormant volcanic hill. Samdruptse is a hilltop located at South Sikkim where the statue of Guru Padmasambhava is installed who is the patron saint of Sikkim. The foundation stone for the project was laid by His Holiness the Dalai Lama on 21st October’2007. The statue is 135 feet tall making it the tallest staue of Guru Rimpoche also known as Guru Padmasambhava. 

·         Rock Garden: The rock garden is located on the way to Samdruptse, It is famous for its different varieties of flora. The garden goes thorugh a winding path path down the mountains from the top. It is a vantage point for watching Mt.Kanchendzonga as well as suitable for family picnics.  

·         Monasteries:  There are many different monasteries that one could visit during their stay i.e. Bon, Doling and Mangbrue monasteries. 

·         Maenam Wildlife Sanctuary: It is at a distance of 12 kms from Ravangla which is the nearest town to Kewzing. Maenamla in literal term means a ‘treasure house of medicine. For the adventourous, Maenam is a great trekking destination from Kewzing and would be an overnight halt. It is famous for its rich fauna and a diverse variety of animals like leopard cat, blood pheasant, black eagle, barking deer, Red panda and many others. At the end of the trail, one can visit the maenam monastery located at the apex. 

·         Temi Tea Garden: Located at around 18 Kms from Ravangla, Temi tea garden is the only tea garden in the state. Spread across roughly 500 acres on the hill slopes, the garden is famous for its tea with a unique flavor and is among the most expensive teas.

  • Rail: New Jalpaiguri – 130 Kms.
  • Road: Namchi – 27 Kms
