The Upper Seraj Valley (USV) is one of the more isolated and unique tourist destinations in the Kullu Valley. Located between the Jalori Pass to the south and the Gushani Village to the north, it is an area blessed with a peaceful ambience and wondrous, environmental features. If you like nightlife and parties you will not enjoy the USV, but if you love nature, hiking, trekking, and peaceful surroundings you won’t be disappointed. The mountain villagers are friendly and open. They live in a more, rural traditional way and have a very serious relationship to nature and the reverence of their ancient deity (devi and devta) culture. Duration of stay: A minimum of four day stay is recommended. Things to do: · Jalori Pass: Jalori pass is among one of the most sought after trekking routes in the country and leads to sareul lake. The sareul lake is a very small lake that can be reached after trekking for more than a day from Jalori. The place has a sacred spot for worshipping the local goddess “Budhi Nagin” i.e. goddess of Ghee (Similar to butter). Local legend has it that if you pray to the goddess, then you get good quality ghee produce. · Chehni Fort: It was constructed about 1500 years ago and provides a magnificent view of the mountains around. The fort has a 400 metre long tunnel as well as a Krishna temple also known as raghunath. · Tirthan Valley: The famous tirthan valley also known as ‘trout valley’ is famous for trout fishing.It is home to the wilder brown trout as well as the coveted rainbow trout. The valley is also near to the famous great Himalayan Park. The great Himalayan Park has different kind of animals like jungle goat, musk deer, mountain lions, brown bear, etc. · Gushaini: Located on the edge of the river tirthan, it is one of the entry points to the great Himalayan park. The village is also famous for trout fishing as well as its many trout farms. · Sainj Valley: As the name suggests, the valley lies along the Sainj River which is a tributary of river beas. It is a scenic valley filled with hamlets and dense forests. The place is a good site for camping. At the end of the trail of the valley lies the village shakti-maraur where a lake with natural red-colored water is found. · Raghupur Fort: It is a beautiful fort in ruins built by the earlier kings of Kullu. The fort has good camping grounds and one can get a magnificent view of the beautiful Seraj valley from its premises. How to reach:
