Ratnagiri - Ratnagiri (View All Properties)

Ratnagiri is a coastal town on the south-western part of Maharashtra. It is famous the world over for its ‘Alphonso’ Mangoes which is highly in demand by consumers from abroad and within. The place is also famous for being the birthplace of ‘Bal Gangadhar Tilak’ who was a highly recognized freedom leader during the independence movement. The place has some of the most beautiful beaches and is a great getaway for people looking to marvel at different delights the town has in store.

Duration of stay: A minimum of two stay is recommended.

Things to do:

  • Manadavi Beach – One of the most thronged beaches at Ratnagiri.The beach is covered with black sand and has a long shoreline.
  • Ratnadurga Fort – It is also popularly known as Bhagavati fort. It was captured by shivaji maharaj in the year 1670 and can view the entire city of ratnagiri from here.
  • Thibaw Palace – It was constructed in the year 1910-11 for the exiled king and queen of Burma (now Myanmar) and kept under house-arrest by the British. They lived in this palace from 1911 till their death in 1916. 
  •  Swayambhu Ganapati temple, Ganapatipule – It is more than 400 years old and legend has it that the naturally formed Ganapati idol was stumbled upon by a villager and built a temple there and people started flocking to the place and gradually settled there.  
  • Marleshwar – The name Marleshwar means ‘God of Marle village’. It is famous for its Shiva temple which is located inside a cave.
  • Malgund - Malgund is the birth place of Kavi 'Keshavsut' the famous Marathi poet, born here in 1866 and is considered to be father of modern Marathi poetry. A beautiful monument and a museum is built in his memory. 
  • Pawas – It is a scenic village and full of natural beauty is also Ratnagiri’s major spiritual place primarily due to a very long stay of Swami Swaroopanand ji, a follower of Warkari Sampraday. There is also a temple inside.
  • Tilak Smarak - It is the house of the ‘Father of the Indian national movement’ Lokmanya Tilak.

How to reach:

  • Road: It is well connected by taxis and buses to all the major towns/cities.
  • Rail: Ratnagiri railway station
  • Air: Pune is the nearest and well connected airport – 290 Kms from Ratnagiri.
