It is located at about a distance of 185 Kms from Mumbai and is close to the famous Diveagar beaches and Harihareshwar temples. The place is ideally suited for those looking for a spiritual trip or a weekend getaway since the area and places around it are filled with temples and sites of historical importance. The area is especially famous for its Somaja Devi temple and the Harihareshwar temples located close by. The cuisines especially the seafood in the area should not be missed.

Duration of stay: A minimum of two day stay is recommended.

Things to do:

  • Somaja Devi Temple: Srivardhan is particularly renowned for its ‘Somaja Devi’ temple and belief has it that if a person bitten by snakes goes to the temple, then they are miraculously cured by the blessings of the Somaja Devi and their body is rid of the Snake Venom. Speaking with the locals, they are more than willing to share the stories and tales of how people came to this temple and got cured, though one needs to listen to the tales with a pinch of salt.
  • Harihareshwar Temple: It is located at a distance of 18 Kms from Srivardhan and is perched very picturesquely on the seashore. It sits on a hill called ‘Harihar’ and overlooks the beautiful harihareshwar beach. Harihareshwar is also called the ‘Dakshin Kashi’. According to legends, it is believed that during the ‘Exile of the pandavas’ they built the temple overnight which houses lord Vishnu, Brahma, and Shiva. Upon going further upwards towards to the top of the mountain, one can also see a deep cut through the mountains called as ‘Parikrama path’ that reaches upto the shore of the sea which has also been attributed to have been constructed by the pandavas.
  • Diveagar: It is a beautiful coastal village located at about a distance of 19 Kilometres from Srivardhan. It has one of the cleanest and virgin beaches stretching to about 5 Kms long. The beach is serene without the hustle and crowds as seen in other beaches. Due to its length and its isolated nature, one can find a spot to stretch out and relax and be one with the nature.
  • Suvarna Ganesh Temple: It is a temple located at Diveagar where a 1000 year old idol of Lord ganesha is housed. The idol is carved out of 24 Carat pure gold and weighs approximately 1.3 Kgs. The idol is believed to be more than 1000 years old and was dug out from the ground in 1997.
  • Murud-Janjira: Janjira is an island fort located on the coastal village of Murud and can be reached from srivardhan via dighi i.e. about 32 Kms from srivardhan. From Dighi, a ferry ride is required to reach the Janjira fort. The fort is a sight to behold lying at a distance from the mainland. It inspires awe as to the construction abilities in the earlier ages. It is a sight to behold both for its architectural as well as historical importance. It was previously built by the Konkan kings and later on conquered by the siddis. The fort was well protected and even Chhatrapati Shivaji during his period could not conquer the fort from the siddis.
