Raigad - Diveagar (View All Properties)

Diveagar is a beautiful coastal village located at about a distance of 170 Kilometres from Mumbai and around 156 Kms from Pune. It forms part of the famous Diveagar-srivardhan-Harihareshwar tourist circuit. It has one of the cleanest and virgin beaches stretching to about 5 Kms long where one can lounge and relax to rejuvenate the body and mind without the hustle and crowd that one often encounters in other beaches. It is a perfect getaway for those wishing a serene and peaceful holiday.

Duration of stay: A minimum of two day stay is recommended.

Things to do:

  • Suvarna Ganesh Temple – Diveagar is famous for its temple of ‘Suvarna Ganesh’ where an Idol of Lord ganesh is carved out of 24 Carat pure gold and weighs approximately 1.3 Kgs. The idol is believed to be more than 1000 years old. According to the history of the idol, it was unearthed from the ground in a metal box and the temple was then built in its honor. Along with the idol, other jewelleries were also ensconced in the metal box when it was dug out of the ground.
  • Harihareshwar – It is one of the most important religious places in Maharashtra located at about a distance of 37 kms from Diveagar and is also known as the “Southern Kashi”. It is surrounded by four holy hills named as Harihareshwar, Harshinachal, Bramhadri and Pushpadri. According to local legends, it is believed that during the ‘Exile of the Pandavas’ they built the ‘temple of Harihareshwar’ overnight which houses Vishnu, Brahma, and Shiva. On moving through a series of steps up the hill from the temple, one can also see a cut through the mountains, which is also attributed to have been done by the ‘Pandavas’. The area also has beautiful beaches along the way.
  • Shrivardhan: It is located at about a distance of 19 Kms from Diveagar and is famous for its temples as well its beautiful beach. It is particularly renowned for its ‘Somaja Devi’ temple. Local belief has it that if a person bitten by snakes goes to the temple, then they are miraculously cured by the blessings of the Somaja Devi and their body is rid of the Snake Venom.
  • Murud-Janjira: Janjira is an island fort located on the coastal village of Murud and can be reached from Diveagar via dighi from where a boat ride is required to reach the fort. It was previously built by the Konkan kings and later on conquered by the siddis. The fort was well protected and even Chhatrapati Shivaji during his period could not conquer the fort from the siddis.
How to reach:
  • Air: Chatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai - 170 kms and Pune Airport – 156 Kms.
  • Rail: Mangaon Rail station – 65 Kms from Diveagar
  • Road: Both ST and private buses are available to cities like Pune/Mumbai from Diveagar. At about 65 Kms from diveagar, ST and Private Buses can also be availed from Mangaon to other major places including Mumbai and Pune.
