It lies on the banks of river Vasishti and to the west of the city lays ‘Guhaghar’. The name ‘Chiplun’ means the “Abode of lord Parshuram”. According to Hindu mythology, it is believed that the entire Konkan coast was made by Lord parshuram who struck an arrow into the sea and drived it back from the area.

Duration of stay: A minimum of two day stay is recommended.

Things to do:

  • Parshuram Temple – It is located at about a distance of 2 Kilometres from Chiplun on the Mumbai – Goa (NH-17) highway. Legend has it that “Lord Parashuram” pushed back the Arabian sea by striking it with an arrow and the temple was built for his devotees. During a visit to the temple, one should also not miss tasting the local “Cocoom” sherbet which is a delight and a speciality of the area.
  • Guhaghar – It is a small scenic town located about 40 Kms from Chiplun and is famous for its beaches.
