Malvan is a small coastal town, an erstwhile trading centre and a busy port and is famous for seafood-based cuisine also known as Malvani cuisine. There are two famous forts in Malvan, Sindhudurg and Padmagad which are supposed to be connected through a tunnel. The coral reef close to Sindhdurg fort has now become famous and customers come specifically for scuba and snorkeling. Duration of stay: minimum of two day stay recommended Sindhudurg Fort: This is the main attraction, and is the pride of the Konkan. In 1664 Shivaji erected this fort on a 44 acres island with 3 km long ramparts - 10 meters high and 4 meter broad. Tarkarli Beach: 6 km from malvan town is a major tourist attraction, with clear waters one can see 20 feet deep into sea. Malvani Cuisine: Chaitanya restaurant and Bamboo hotel have become a brand of Malvani veg and non veg food as you will find lot of tourists waiting to get a seat. Devagh Beach: 10 km from Malvan is small fishing village, its actually a thin strip of land with Karli backwaters on one side and Arabian Sea on the other. Devbagh sangam: Conflunence of Karli river and Arabian sea, one can also take a boat ride from here. Other places within half hour driving distance from Malvan are Achra Beach, Tondavali Beach, Sarjekot Fort,Bharatgad & Bhagwatgad Fort. Rock Garden: There is a beautiful Rock Garden in Malvan. This garden is rich with colourful, decorative flowers, trees and sea weed, attractive pathways, beautiful pond Dhamapur Lake: Dhamapur is on the way from Kudal to Malvan, and is ideal for picnic. The lake surrounded by dense forested hills can be explored on a boat. There is an ancient temple of Bhagawati Devi on the shore of this lake.
How to reach: On NH - 4 after after entering Kolhapur city, reach to Rankala State Transport Depot; this road further will take you to Radhanagari - Phonda and will touch NH 17 at Humras Teetha. On NH 17 after crossing Kankawali, take a right turn from Kasal and reach Malvan town.
