Ratnagiri - Ganpatiphule (View All Properties)

Ganpatipule is known for the temple of Swayambhu (Self-originated) Ganesh and frequented by thousands of followers every year. The God is considered to be the Paschim Dwardevta (Western Sentinel God of India), and those who visit Ganapatipule, make it a point to pay their respect to this great deity. Ganapatipule also has one of the most spectacular beaches along the Konkan Coast - an idyllic gateway that attracts peace-seekers, beach lovers, and pilgrims alike. Aside from its clean beach and clear waters, Ganapatipule is rich in flora, including mangroves and coconut palms. Here, you can leave the hectic world behind as you laze around on golden sands or explore the many trails that lead from the beach.

Duration of stay: A minimum of two stay is recommended.

Things to do:

  • Visit 400 year old, Ganapatiphule temple, one of the eight significant ganapatis [Ashta Ganapatis].
  • Pradakshina, 1 km long Ganapati-shaped walk way around the hill.
  • Ganpatiphule & Malgund beach.
  • Boat rides and water sports are available at MTDC ganapatiphule complex.
  • Tilak Smarak, house of Lokmanya Tilak.
  • Ratnadurga Fort, Bhagivati Bandar [port], Patit Pawan Mandir [first temple built for non Brahmins].
  • Thebaw Palace, constructed in 1910-11 for the exiled king and queen of Burma (now Myanmar). They lived in this palace from 1911 till their death in 1916.
  • Marleshwar - 60km from Ganapatipule, is famous for its Shiva temple and waterfalls.
  • Derwan - 85Km from Ganapatipule is well known for its Shiv Shristi (an exhibition on Chhatrapati Shivaji).
  • Parshuram - 112Km from Ganapatipule, is known for the Parshuram temple.

How to reach:.

  • By Road: It is situated along the western coast of Maharashtra 375Km south of Mumbai, along the Konkan coast. On Mumbai Goa National Highway No. 17 (NH-17), after Sangameshwar, take right turn from Nivali village [while one is driving towards Ratnagiri] for Ganapatipule (32 km) or take right turn from Hathkhamba (Nivali - Hathkhamba: 4km) to go to Ganapatipule. Ganapatiphule is well connected by state transport buses.
  • By Rail: Karbude is the nearest station for passenger trains and Ratnagiri for all trains.
  • By Air: Ratnagiri and after that Mumbai is the nearest and well connected airport.
